California just banned AI actor clones without consent. Well, what about the UK?

California now says you need clear permission to make a digital replica of an actor. It also protects deceased performers’ likenesses.
Where the UK is
The UK is moving to criminalise sexually explicit deepfakes, but non-intimate face and voice clones still live in contracts and data law. There is no general image right.
Here’s the split
-“AI is just a tool. Use it.”
-“No. Pay people for their face and voice, or don’t use them at all.”
-“Clones are fine if consented and paid.”
-“Clones rewrite history and kill jobs. Full stop.”
If you work in UK film, do this today
-Get written consent for any digital replica.
-Limit where, how and how long it can be used.
-Put a fair rate on replicas. No hidden buyouts.
-Add a shut-off clause to stop future use if consent is withdrawn.
-Keep an audit trail. Be ready for subject access requests.
-Use Equity’s guidance and clauses. Protect supporting artists and voice talent, not just leads.
My question - Who gets to price your face? Should identity even be up for sale at all?
Ai Actors clones are banned in California, What does this mean ?
